Trust and Safety Team
The organizational team responsible for detecting, preventing, and responding to harmful or policy-violating uses of an AI product.
A Trust and Safety (T&S) team is the operational function that keeps an AI product safe in production — monitoring for abuse, responding to violations, iterating on policies, and building the systems that enforce platform rules. In AI companies, T&S teams work closely with behavior architects: behavior architects design the behavioral defaults and write the policies, while T&S teams operationalize enforcement and deal with real-world abuse at scale. The relationship is bidirectional — T&S surfaces failure modes and abuse patterns that behavior architects use to improve design, and behavioral improvements reduce the operational burden on T&S. For practitioners entering AI product work, understanding what T&S does and how it differs from behavior design is important for collaborating effectively across functions.
