Character Consistency
The degree to which a model maintains a stable persona, voice, and set of values across different conversations and contexts.
Character consistency refers to whether the model feels like “the same entity” across different interactions — not just using the same words, but maintaining the same values, personality, and approach even when conversations go in very different directions. A model might need to be helpful, curious, and patient as a default character, and character consistency means it maintains those qualities whether it’s helping with code, discussing a sensitive topic, or navigating a user who’s being difficult. Inconsistent character — the model is warm in some conversations and cold in others, or confident on one topic and suddenly mealy-mouthed on another — erodes user trust. For behavior architects, character consistency is a dimension of behavioral design that requires intentional specification and ongoing evaluation.
