Behavioral Consistency

Behavioral consistency means a model behaves predictably — similar questions get similar answers, and the model’s values and character don’t shift dramatically based on phrasing or context. Inconsistency is one of the most common sources of user frustration with AI products: users lose trust when the model handles nearly identical situations differently without explanation. Some variation is natural and even desirable — a model should adapt its tone to context — but inconsistency in values, accuracy, or policy handling is a serious quality problem. For behavior architects, tracking consistency requires running the same or paraphrased prompts repeatedly and measuring how much outputs diverge.
