Qualitative Analysis
Close, interpretive review of model outputs and interactions to understand nuanced behavioral patterns that numbers alone don't capture.
Qualitative analysis is the practice of reading and interpreting model outputs rather than scoring them — looking for patterns, themes, and nuances that resist reduction to a number. Where quantitative metrics tell you that 12% of responses in a category were flagged as problematic, qualitative analysis helps you understand why: what do those flagged responses have in common? What does the model seem to misunderstand? What does good look like, and what’s the specific nature of the gap? For behavior architects, qualitative analysis is indispensable for problem understanding and behavioral design — it’s how you develop the intuition about model behavior that makes quantitative evaluation frameworks meaningful. Numbers without qualitative context can mislead; qualitative insight without quantitative validation can’t scale.
